Agentic AI: The Next Big Leap?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has come a long way. From algorithms analyzing data in the background to conversational AI like ChatGPT, we've already seen how this technology is reshaping industries and how we approach our work.  But the recent buzz about Agentic AI represents something even more profound—another change of gear that could push AI much further into the public conscience.

At Shipergy, we’ve been leveraging AI to innovate in the marine fuels space, and today, we’d like to break down what Agentic AI is, why it’s a potential game-changer, and how it could fit into our plans for the future.

What Is Agentic AI?

In simple terms, Agentic AI is artificial intelligence that doesn’t just provide insights or answers—it takes action independently. While most AI today operates like a helpful assistant (giving you recommendations or processing data), Agentic AI goes one step further. It sets goals, makes decisions, and executes tasks autonomously.

Imagine a personal assistant that not only drafts emails for you but also decides the best time to send them, schedules follow-ups, and adjusts its approach based on the recipient's response.

Why Agentic AI Will Dominate Public Awareness

So far, AI’s biggest applications have worked quietly in the background—think of Amazon’s product recommendations or Netflix’s show suggestions. These systems are powerful but largely invisible to most people.

Agentic AI changes this. It brings AI into the spotlight by acting in the real world, performing tasks that are visible and impactful. Whether it’s flying a delivery drone, managing your home’s energy usage, or driving a car, Agentic AI makes its presence known in ways people can see and feel.

By taking initiative and solving problems autonomously, Agentic AI transforms AI from a hidden tool into a collaborator people interact with daily. It’s this direct, tangible impact that will make AI an unavoidable part of everyday life.

How Shipergy Is Leveraging AI

At Shipergy, we’re committed to staying ahead of the curve, and AI is a key part of how we innovate. Here’s how we’re using it today and what’s on the horizon:

1. Large Language Models (LLMs)

We’ve integrated LLMs into our daily operations, most notably in the creation of our daily market report. Producing this report used to require significant time and effort. Now, with the help of AI, it’s faster, more accurate, and more engaging for our readers. This means our clients get better insights in less time—a win-win for everyone.

2. Machine Learning

We’ve also leveraged machine learning to analyze and predict fuel quality trends globally. This work is helping us uncover valuable insights that improve fuel procurement strategies for our clients. While we can’t share all the details just yet, stay tuned—there’s more to come on this front.

3. The Future: Agentic AI?

While we haven’t deployed Agentic AI yet, we’re actively exploring how best to leverage it. At Shipergy, we see the most likely first applications being internal, where Agentic AI could help us further streamline and optimise our operations as we continue to scale. By focusing initially on enhancing our internal processes, we aim to llay a strong foundation for integrating Agentic AI in ways that drive greater efficiency and enable smarter decision-making across our business.

A Step Forward?

Agentic AI is generating a lot of buzz right now, and it’s tempting to see it as the next big leap in technology. But is all this noise justified?  At Shipergy, we’re cautiously optimistic about the potential of Agentic AI. It promises to bring more autonomy and efficiency to all industries, where managing complexity is key. For us, the immediate value might not be in flashy applications but in streamlining internal operations, helping us scale smarter and faster.

Only time will tell if Agentic AI delivers on its promise to transform industries and lives in meaningful ways. For now, we’re focused on practical steps: leveraging today’s AI tools to create value for our clients while preparing to explore how Agentic AI might fit into our future.
